Spring Fever - Planning for summer museum visits

Wow! One more week of school and the summer stretches out before us. We need something to do. Museums are going to be part of the mix but in what way?

What are the needs of a family audience in the summer, and how can museums meet them?

Affordability
  • With a lot of days to fill, parents cannot afford to spend a lot on any one activity.
  • Transportation, lunch, and souvenirs all factor into the bottom line.
Family oriented
  • Programs and activities should be age appropriate while engaging the whole family. Unless there are activities at the same time for different ages, it is a struggle to entertain one child while the older or younger has his/her program.
Convenience
  • How do we get there? Where will we park? Are there food options nearby? What times are available for programs? Will it conflict with nap time?
Content
  • What is the program about? How will it be conducted? How relevant is it to our experience?

We'll be looking into what's going on locally and will report on what we find.
